My softball team had a practice this evening and as we were waiting for a game to finish up before we could get started, I spotted this hawk sitting on top of one of the light poles in the outfield. Of course I went out to snap some shots, and while the best position for me to stand would have been on the field, I don’t think anyone would have stopped the game so I could take photos of some bird.
I took a bunch of pictures, and as I was walking away I looked back and realized that the hawk was about to take off. It was looking intently at something and started to lift its shoulders. So I watched to see where it would fly to next, hoping I could get some better shots. I lucked out as it flew to the edge of some bushes and nabbed a rabbit. When I first arrived on the scene, the hawk was still wrestling with the rabbit while keeping an eye on me at the same time.
Of course I fired away with the camera again, and kept walking closer knowing that at some point I’d get too close and the hawk would fly off with its meal. Eventualy it did fly away, but not before I took this shot with the hawk glaring at me as though I’m there to steal its dinner.
